Years 7-12 Study Skills and Organisation

In recent years, I have often been asked to present Study Skills workshops at various South Australian metropolitan/country schools and other educational organisations. I regularly deliver school holiday programmes in Study Skills in which sessions are personally tailored for the child’s specific needs. Study Skills sessions typically focus on how to effectively manage homework time with leisure time and extracurricular activities through the development of a homework study-relaxation timetable that recognises students have to balance the duality of both a school life and a recreational/family/part-time job life. Students are introduced to a wide range of study techniques, such as flash cards, mind maps, Cornell noting methods and active recall. Senior school students learn about the psychology of learning with a focus on metacognition (thinking about your own thinking), linear and lateral thinking and prioritising time and energy levels.
